The Latin Quarter of Paris (Quartier Latin) is located south of the Île de la Cité and is one of the busiest and liveliest parts of the city.
The Latin Quarter owes its name to the Middle Ages, when the inhabitants of the area were students who used Latin to communicate.
From the Middle Ages the students of the Latin Quarter had a great influence on France, and during the centuries XIX and XX carried out student movements of great political importance. The Latin Quarter was one of the hot spots during the May Revolution of '68.
A walk in the Latin Quarter
After crossing Saint Michel Square, where there is a huge fountain with the figure of Saint Michael struggling with a dragon, one enters the framework of small and charming alleys that make up the Latin Quarter.
From this point all are restaurants and cafes that offer pleasant terraces with quite affordable prices.
